I am a UK based web developer working in the Higher Education sector, helping to maintain and develop corporate, departmental and faculty web provision.
A student of fine and applied art, then graphic design, I began my career in a multi-disciplinary design house producing promotional and educative multimedia and websites. Projects included websites for Transgenomic, Nissan Skyline / Middlehurst Motorsport, 3Com and Ambalink (an early pan-european online shopping portal) and CD-ROM catalogues and multimedia productions for Scottish Power and Deva Tap.
Interest quickly turned me from a designer to programmer, and I picked up skills in Javascript, Perl, PHP, Actionscript, Lingo and Java.
The list has only gotten longer, and now includes jQuery, the Symfony PHP Framework, and a little Objective-C. I dabble in plug-in development, and there’re a few examples on the site for WordPress, Phorum and javascript frameworks.
My present role is a diverse one; implementing and maintaining corporate websites, developing plug-ins and web templates for Open Text Management Server and providing training and support for users of the OTMS and Microsoft Sharepoint. There’s also designing and building in-house applications, dabbling in HTML5 and Mobile/Mobile Web and web/systems integration too keep me out of trouble.
At the end of 2008 I completed my MSc in Web Computing, with a research project in the fields of Computer Forensics artefact evaluation.
Right now I’m looking seriously at developing natively for the Android and Iphone platforms, while maintaining my advocacy and interest in the web, in all its forms.
